Dr. Buttenfield discusses the cycle of activities that take place during the development and interpretation of cartographic presentations. Using a communications model, she explains the processes of encoding and decoding that connect the map maker with the map user. This presentation concludes with comments about the ways that cartographic products may alter an individual's worldview.
