UCSB 2005 June 19-July 2: Santa Barbara, CATravel and AccommodationsParticipants will be eligible for accommodations in campus housing at significantly lower rates than in commercial accommodations. Full information on registration for housing will be provided upon notification of acceptance into the workshop The workshop will be held at the UCSB campus, which is approximately 20 minutes west of downtown Santa Barbara and 5 minutes from downtown Goleta. (Campus maps & directions) Suggested Travel ItineraryArrive Santa Barbara, Sunday, June 19 Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA) airport is served by the following airlines:
SBA is adjacent to UCSB. For more info, see www.flysba.com. If you are staying on-campus in Manzanita Village (more info on this below), there is free shuttle service from and to the airport. Participants need only call the front desk at 805.893.6161 during regular office hours (7am 1am) upon arrival at the airport. If you are staying elsewhere, we recommend taking a SuperRide Airport Shuttle - convenient and less expensive than taxis. There is usually a shuttle waiting at the airport for arriving passengers (a large white van with "SuperRide" in big blue lettering), otherwise there is a courtesy phone in the baggage claim area. Also, it's convenient and a bit less expensive to schedule a round-trip with them. Flying into Los Angeles International (LAX) airport: LAX is about a 2-hour drive south of Santa Barbara and is served by most major airlines and rental car companies. As an alternative to renting a car, the Santa Barbara Airbus can take you from LAX to either downtown Santa Barbara or Goleta. They offer discounted rates for round-trips and pre-paid trips. For schedules, fares, and pick-up/drop-off locations see the link above. Flying into Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena (BUR) airport: On the northern edge of the greater Los Angeles area, BUR is about 2 hours from Santa Barbara and is served by many major airlines and rental car companies. Airfares are usually comparable to LAX fares. AccommodationsFor your convenience, we have reserved a block of rooms with Manzanita Village. Opened in Fall 2002, Manzanita Village provides “no frills” residence hall style housing to UCSB students and visitors. Each building has a laundry/vending room, a lounge with view terrace, and a study room. Some buildings are equipped with full kitchens. The rooms themselves have extra-long twin beds with linens provided, a closet, a desk, a built-in bookshelf, and a dresser. Internet access will be available at no extra charge. Hall bathrooms are shared among 4 rooms. The two-week rate (14 days, 13 nights) is approximately $900 for a shared room, $1,106 for a private room. This includes a full meal plan (including breakfast, lunch, and dinner), linens, and free campus parking. For additional information and on-line registration, please see the UCSB Conference Services registration webpage. Should you prefer alternative lodging, we encourage you to secure it as soon as possible. It can be difficult to find affordable hotel rooms in Santa Barbara during the summer. For hotel suggestions, please see UCSB Local Lodging or Accommodations in Santa Barbara. Off campus housing will require the use of public transportation to and from campus or, if travelling by car, the additional cost of parking fees ($7/day).
