  • The Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA) airport, adjacent to UCSB, is served by the following airlines:

    American Eagle 1.800.433.7300
    America West Express 1.800.235.9292
    Delta Connection 1.800.221.1212
    Horizon Air 1.800.547.9308

*United Express service operated by SkyWest Airlines and Mesa Airlines.

    For more info, see www.flysba.com.

From there, we recommend taking the SuperRide shuttle - very convenient and less expensive than taxis ($15-18 one-way versus $22-24 for a taxi). There is usually a shuttle waiting at the airport for deplaning passengers (a large white van with "SuperRide" in big blue lettering), otherwise there is a courtesy phone in the baggage claim area. Also, it's convenient and a bit less expensive to schedule a round-trip with them. For more info, see www.superride.net.

  • Flying into Los Angeles International (LAX) airport: LAX is about a 2-hour drive south of Santa Barbara and is served by most major airlines and rental car companies. LAX website

As an alternative to renting a car, the Santa Barbara Airbus can take you from LAX to either downtown Santa Barbara or Goleta. They offer discounted rates for round-trips and pre-paid trips. For schedules, fares, and pick-up/drop-off locations, please see www.santabarbaraairbus.com.

  • Flying into Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena (BUR) airport: On the northern edge of the greater Los Angeles area, BUR is about 2 hours from Santa Barbara and is served by many major airlines and rental car companies. Airfares are usually comparable to LAX fares. See www.burbankairport.com for more information.

    Accommodations
For your convenience, we have reserved a block of rooms with Manzanita Village, the newest addition to the on-campus housing program at UCSB. This complex opened in Fall 2002 and provides “no frills” residence hall style housing to UCSB students and visitors.

Each building has a laundry/vending room, a lounge with view terrace, and a study room. Some buildings are equipped with full kitchens. The rooms themselves have extra-long twin beds with linens provided, a closet, a desk, a built-in bookshelf, and a dresser. Internet access will be available at no extra charge. Hall bathrooms are shared among 4 rooms.

The 2-week rate (14 days, 13 nights) is approximately $573 for a shared room, $793. Additional information and on-line registration: UCSB Conference Services Registration.

Should you prefer alternative lodging, we encourage you to secure it as soon as possible, as finding affordable hotel rooms in the Santa Barbara area during the summer can be difficult. For hotel suggestions, please click here or here.

    Workshop Class Location/Time

    Miscellaneous
Workshop dress: Casual attire is fine, but keep in mind the classroom and computer lab can be chilly, so you may want to bring a sweater/jacket to the classes.

Santa Barbara weather: Usually temperate during the day (high 60s to high 70s), but rather chilly in the evenings. Be sure to bring a sweater or light jacket, especially to any evening events. Current conditions and forecasts.
