What is spatially integrated social science?
We're trying to break down some of the barriers between the social sciences, and to encourage the use of common tools, data sets, and approaches to social science research. We're promoting the use of geographic information systems, and other tools that take an integrated approach. By focusing on places we can study the interplay of economics, sociology, demography, criminology, anthropology, etc., instead of studying these disciplines abstractly. This approach is already being widely used in marketing, planning, and crime prevention, and tools like GIS are already popular. But academic research remains segmented by the barriers between traditional disciplines. We're trying to do something about that.
